Sarah Barnes was born in St. Louis, MO and raised as a single child in Waubun, MN. Her father was a Viet Nam veteran, which prompted her to join the Air Force in the fall of 1997 and train in the field of Communications Signals Intelligence. She remained in service until 2003. In 2005, Barnes determined she needed to return to school and participated in Veterans Upward Bound at NDSU to acclimate herself to college life and receive assistance with her core classes. She gained confidence and knowledge to continue her education through the program and to eventually pursue a major in Criminal Justice. She is currently working for the Veteran’s Administration in Fargo.
